Homes and kitchens around Playa del Rey
Playa del Rey mixes beach-adjacent condos and apartments, townhomes, and single-family houses up on the hillside. Many were built in the mid-twentieth century and remodeled since. Condo kitchens tend to be compact, with slim or counter-depth refrigerators, built-in microwaves and stacked washer-dryer units tucked into closets. Remodeled houses often have larger setups, such as built-in or French-door refrigerators, gas ranges, wall ovens and dishwashers paneled to match the cabinetry. Tight spaces and custom installs mean repairs take care. We're used to working around them without tearing up cabinets or floors.
How coastal air affects your equipment
Living this close to the ocean means salt and moisture in the air most of the year. The marine layer is easy on people but hard on metal. Condenser coils, outdoor AC units and refrigerator coils corrode faster here than inland, and electrical contacts and control boards can fail sooner. Damp air also slows drying, so a clean dryer vent matters more. Summers stay mild, so many homes rely on wall furnaces, older forced-air systems or heat pumps that sit idle for months and then struggle when they're finally needed. Older homes may also have aging wiring and gas connections worth checking.
What Playa del Rey homeowners call us about
In the kitchen, the most common calls are about refrigerators that stop cooling or leak water, ice makers that quit, dishwashers that won't drain, and gas ranges or ovens that won't light or hold temperature. In the laundry room, it's washers that leak or won't spin and dryers that run but don't heat, often because of a clogged vent. For heating and cooling, we see furnaces that won't ignite on the first cold night, heat pumps that short-cycle, and AC units with corroded coils or weak airflow. Every visit starts with a $95 diagnosis, so you know the cause before any work begins.

Our freezer stopped working recently. When I called West Appliance Service they came to my home to assess the problem within 1 hour of calling. They were able to come back the next day to complete the repairs once they knew what parts they needed. The service was quick, smooth, and well done. We had a great experience working with Ivan and highly recommend anyone to use their services. We will definitely be a repeat customer if our appliances need repair.
